2003 2004 Syllabus

 

Grading Scale:            How Grade Is Calculated:

      100 - 90 = A                         40% Performance Grade

        89 - 80 = B                         30% Written Assignments

        79 - 70 = C                         30 % Tests

        69 - 60 = D

        Below 60 = F

 

Performance Grade:

  • The student performance grade is based upon 40 points daily or 200 points per week.
  • The grade for the week is the total of the daily points.
  • Points will be deducted for not following the classroom job assignments.
  • Your daily grade points will be given out at the end of the each day.
  • The weekly grade will be given out on Friday or the last day of the week.
  • Performance grades are broken down into Tasks, Safety, and Work attitude.

 

Written Assignments and Tests:

  • Written assignments and tests will be given out frequently.
  • Any student needing help reading an assignment or test must ask the instructor for help.
  • Cheating on any assignment or test will result in a loss of grade for that assignment or test.

 

Classroom Rules:

  • Students will follow all the rules in the GCTC student handbook.
  • Students will follow the directions given by any instructor.
  • Cooperative work will be required from all students.
  • Like work students will be required to be on time to class.
  • Students will demonstrate a positive work attitude.
  • Students who do not call in when absent will receive a zero for the daily grade.
  • Name-calling and verbal threats will not be tolerated.
  • Proper clothing of the industry is required at all times.
  • No horseplay in the classroom or shop area.
  • Treat each other and the equipment with respect.
  • Students may not date other Occupational Services class members.
  • Students are required to dress in a manner according to their training at GCTC.

 

Discipline Plan:

All students are expected to follow the classroom rules. These are the consequences if you choose to break one of the rules.

  • Verbal warning
  • Lose privileges and points from daily grade and assigned extra work.
  • Conference between student and Instructor.
  • Conference with Parents.
  • Conference with Principal.

 

 

Routine of Daily Schedule

 

Before Second Bell Rings:

  • Be sitting in your seat with pen or pencil ready to go to work, or receive a tardy.
  • Have proper work clothing on and be prepared for the daily assignment.
  • DO NOT BE IN THE RESTROOM OR SHOP AREA.
  • Answer the Review and Preview (RAP) question.

 

During the Class Period:

  • Complete all assignments.
  • Have a positive attitude, and do not disrupt class.
  • Do not sit down or relax on the job.
  • Continue to work until notified by instructor.

 

End of the Day (last 15 minutes of class):

  • Work on your assigned cleanup tasks.
  • NO RESTROOM VISITS ARE ALLOWED AT THIS TIME.
  • Do not stand or sit around doing nothing during the cleanup time.
  • Do not change clothes until the entire shop or classroom cleanup is completed.

 

Other Important Information:

  • All personal items including purses, jewelry, or valuable items are not to be stored in the classroom; these items should be locked in your locker at all times. A locker and lock will be provided for all students.
  • The school is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Therefore it is recommended that students not bring any valuables to the school.
  • Students given extra work for discipline will only be allowed to do the work during the assigned times and during the time spent on campus. Discipline assignments will not be considered completed until all paperwork is completed and turned into the instructor.

 

Appropriate Dress:

  • Wear a tee shirt or any other sleeved shirt.
    • No spaghetti straps, low cut shirts or baggy shirts.
    • No cut off shirts, this includes boys and girls.
  • Wear pants or after receiving permission shorts may be worn.
    • No skirts or skimpy shorts. In OCSB no shorts are allowed.
  • Wear closed toed shoes.
    • Sandals or flip flops are not allowed.
  • Students are responsible for having proper clothes on and ready to work before the second bell. Students who have to change clothes are allowed time at the end of the day to change back into their regular clothes. Students will NOT be allowed to change at break times.

Instructors have spare clothing if the students violate any of the program dress code.
